Ukraine's mobile network development began from scratch after the country gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. The initial infrastructure was antiquated and inefficient, with a significant backlog of telephone line applications. Over time, the country has made substantial improvements, with the majority of regional centers now having digital switching stations. Today, mobile phone ownership rates are high, with approximately 130% of the population owning a mobile phone. The main mobile operators in Ukraine are Kyivstar, Lifecell, and Vodafone Ukraine, with Kyivstar having the largest subscriber base at 26 million, followed by Vodafone Ukraine with 19 million subscribers, and Lifecell with 10 million subscribers.
