Poland's mobile network has undergone significant development since its inception. The first mobile network in Poland was established in 1991, marking the beginning of modern mobile telephony in the country. By 1996, the mobile market had gained momentum, with the number of mobile users increasing steadily. The mandatory registration of prepaid cards in 2016 led to a shift towards post-paid customers, with prepaid users constituting only 27% of all mobile telephony users by the end of 2022.

As of 2022, Poland had 59.3 million active SIM cards, with the network operator P4 leading the market with a 30% share, followed by Orange Polska. The mobile telephony market in Poland generated over 35% of the country's telecommunications revenue, with operators' total revenues increasing by nearly 8% compared to the previous year.

Poland is also implementing the 5G network, which is expected to significantly enhance transmission speeds, enabling applications such as the Internet of Things, telemedical services, autonomous vehicles, and smart cities. The fastest 5G download speed recorded in Poland in 2022 was over 113 Mbps.
