Turkey's mobile network has undergone significant development over the years. The first GSM cellular networks were introduced in Turkey in 1994, with Istanbul being one of the first cities to receive the service. This marked the beginning of a rapid expansion in mobile communication. By 2005, Türk Telekom, which had split from the Ministry of Post, Telegraph, and Telephone, was privatized, leading to further advancements in the sector.

Today, the Turkish telecom market is highly developed, with a strong demand for high-speed data services. Nearly all of Turkey's 97.6 million mobile phone users use smartphones. The major GSM cellular operators in Turkey are Turkcell (41.3% market share), Vodafone (30.8%), and Turk Telekom/TT Mobil (27.9%). The deployment of 4.5G (LTE) technology in 2016 significantly increased the number of subscribers, reaching 81 million by 2020, which accounts for 92% of the data market. This has led to increased sales of e-commerce, mobile broadband, mobile banking services, and mobile television services, creating favorable business opportunities for investors.

The transition to 5G technology is ongoing, with the Turkish government allocating $5 billion for its development in 2019. Operators are partnering with providers like Nokia, Ericsson, and Huawei to invest in advanced networks. Istanbul, being a major hub, plays a crucial role in Turkey's telecommunications infrastructure, with significant investments in fiber optic solutions and cybersecurity measures to ensure robust connectivity and security.

Overall, Turkey's mobile network has evolved from its early beginnings to a highly advanced and competitive market, driven by continuous investment and technological advancements.
