Check device compatibilitySudan's mobile network has undergone significant development over the years. The first mobile network in Sudan was introduced in the early 1990s, with the launch of the first mobile operator, Mobitel, in 1992. This marked the beginning of mobile telephony in the country. Since then, other operators have entered the market, including Zain Sudan, MTN Sudan, and Sudani. These operators have expanded coverage and services, including 3G and 4G networks, to cater to the growing demand for mobile communication.
Despite these advancements, Sudan's mobile network has faced challenges due to the ongoing conflict and political instability. Internet shutdowns, particularly in early February 2024, have severely impacted mobile connectivity, affecting humanitarian efforts and emergency services. These shutdowns have been attributed to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) enforcing telecommunications blackouts to block information flows in areas controlled by the opposing side.
