Macedonia's mobile network has evolved significantly over the years. The first network operators entered the market in the mid-1990s, marking the beginning of the country's telecommunications development. By the early 2000s, the number of mobile phone lines had grown, with around 2.2 million active lines by 2012. This growth was driven by the introduction of new operators and the expansion of existing ones.

One notable development was the entry of VIP in 2007, which brought a new level of competition to the market. In 2015, VIP merged with One to form A1 Macedonia, part of the A1 Telecom Austria Group. Another significant player is Lycamobile, which entered the market in 2016 and offers reduced roaming prices. Telekabel, established in 1997, initially focused on cable television and internet services but later expanded to mobile operations. Neotel, founded in 2004, provides a range of services including broadband internet, fixed telephony, and leased lines.

The country's mobile network infrastructure has improved significantly, with strong 4G coverage, especially in urban areas. The download and upload speeds are notable, with speeds reaching up to 90 Mbps and 82 Mbps, respectively, in Skopje. Both Telekom and A1 offer prepaid SIM cards for tourists, which include a certain amount of minutes and gigabytes for surfing, making it a convenient option for visitors.

Overall, Macedonia's mobile network has become more competitive and versatile, offering a range of services and products to its users.
