Check device compatibilityJamaica's mobile network is primarily served by two major operators: Digicel Jamaica and Flow Jamaica. Digicel was granted a license in 2001 to operate mobile services in the newly liberalized telecom market, which was previously dominated by the incumbent Cable and Wireless. Digicel opted for the GSM wireless system, while Cable and Wireless initially used TDMA but later upgraded to GSM in 2002 and decommissioned TDMA in 2006. Digicel introduced 4G/LTE services in 2016, primarily on Band 17 (700 MHz), and expanded its coverage to various parts of the island, including Kingston and Montego Bay. Flow Jamaica, operated by Cable & Wireless Communications, also launched its 4G/LTE network in 2016, primarily on Band 4 (1700 MHz), and has since expanded its coverage significantly, including areas like Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. Flow's LTE network covers 95% of the Jamaican population, and the company has committed to launching LTE in Kingston and Montego Bay, where Digicel's LTE network is currently available.
