Check device compatibilityCuba's mobile network has undergone significant development over the years. The first mobile network in Cuba was introduced in 1991, with the state-owned telecommunications company, ETECSA, providing the service. Initially, mobile phone usage was limited due to high costs and restricted access. However, in 2008, ETECSA began to expand mobile coverage, and by 2013, the company introduced the "Nauta" service, which allowed users to access the internet via mobile devices. This service was initially available at 118 centers across the country and later expanded to include public Wi-Fi hotspots.
In December 2018, ETECSA launched full mobile internet access at 3G speeds, offering different internet packages ranging from 600 MB for 7 Cuban convertible pesos ($7) to 4 GB for 30 Cuban convertible pesos ($30). This marked a significant step towards broader internet access for the general public. Despite these advancements, internet access remains restricted, with most users accessing a government-controlled intranet rather than the global internet.
