The deployment of GSM 900 MHz (E-GSM) in Malta dates back to the early days of mobile communication, with the first mobile phone call made in 1990 marking the introduction of 1G cellular connectivity. The GSM network was further enhanced with the deployment of 2G mobile networks in 1997, and subsequent advancements have continued to improve voice call quality and data services.

Vodafone Malta uses the UMTS frequency band B1 (2100 MHz). This band was deployed in 2006, allowing customers to use their mobile devices for internet browsing and other data-intensive applications.

Vodafone Malta uses LTE Band 3 (1800 MHz +) for its 4G/LTE network. This band supports both FDD and TDD configurations, offering a balance between network coverage and data capacity, making it suitable for dense urban areas. The deployment of this band started in 2013.
