Oi Brazil is a significant player in the Brazilian telecommunications market, particularly in the mobile sector. Here are some key points about Oi's mobile network:
Sale of Mobile Unit: In April 2022, Oi sold its mobile unit to Claro, TIM, and Vivo for BRL 15.9 billion ($3.4 billion). This sale included the transfer of Oi’s assets, such as infrastructure and spectrum, and the migration of Oi’s customers to the new networks. TIM acquired 14.5 million Oi customers, while Claro and Vivo acquired 11.6 million and 10.5 million customers, respectively.
Customer Migration: The migration process was completed in early 2023. Initially, Oi customers were transferred under a roaming-like model, with full integration into the host networks planned for completion by early 2023.
Network Experience: After the migration, Oi users experienced significant improvements in their mobile network experience. There were notable increases in average download and upload speeds, with Oi users enjoying 4.6 Mbps faster average download speeds and 1.9 Mbps faster average upload speeds compared to before the sale. Network availability also improved, with a reduction in time spent with no mobile signal and an increase in time connected to 4G and 5G services.
Experiential Metrics: Oi users saw substantial improvements in experiential metrics such as Video Experience, Games Experience, and Voice App Experience, with increases of 7.5, 8.6, and 5.6 points, respectively.
Regional Variations: The improvements in network performance were more pronounced in smaller cities like São José dos Campos, Ribeirão Preto, and Cuiabá, where Oi users saw their download speeds increase by around 2.5 times, from single to double digits.
Oi’s mobile network has undergone significant changes with the sale and migration of its customers, leading to improved network performance and user experience.
