Digi.Mobil Romania is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that operates in Romania and Italy. Here are some key points about the network:

  • Ownership and Operations: Digi.Mobil is part of the RCS&RDS group, a leading telecommunications company in Eastern Europe and the largest telecommunications operator in Romania. It offers mobile services in Romania and Italy through partnerships with local carriers like TIM in Italy.

  • Frequency Bands: The network uses various frequency bands, including GSM, UMTS, LTE, and 5G. Specifically, it uses 2 GSM bands, 2 UMTS bands, 1 LTE band, and 2 5G NR bands.

  • Services: Digi.Mobil offers a range of mobile services, including prepaid plans with national and international minutes, internet rollover, and no activation or extra costs. The network also provides fast and reliable customer service.

  • Coverage and Performance: In Romania, Digi.Mobil has a significant subscriber base and has been expanding its 5G network. It has also retired its 3G network and repurposed the spectrum for 4G services.

  • Customer Experience: Digi.Mobil has seen improvements in its customer experience metrics, such as 5G upload speeds, which have significantly increased, placing it on par with Orange in Romania.

Overall, Digi.Mobil Romania provides a range of mobile services with a strong focus on customer experience and network performance.

Frequency Bands

GSM

Name Interface Description
900 MHz (E-GSM) GSM

Digi.Mobil Romania uses the GSM 900 MHz (E-GSM) frequency band. This band is deployed in various countries around the world, including Romania, for GSM mobile communications. The GSM 900 MHz (E-GSM) frequency band operates from 880 MHz to 960 MHz, supporting both uplink and downlink communications. It is a subset of the GSM standard and is widely used in many regions for mobile phone services.

LTE

Name Interface Description
B38 (TD 2600 MHz) LTE

Digi.Mobil Romania uses LTE band 38 (TD 2600 MHz) exclusively. This band operates in the frequency range of 2570 – 2620 MHz with a bandwidth of 50 MHz. It uses the time division duplex (TDD) technology.

B1 (2100 MHz) LTE

Digi.Mobil Romania uses LTE band B1 (2100 MHz). It was deployed on August 5, 2024.

B7 (2600 MHz) LTE

Digi.Mobil Romania uses LTE Band 7 (2600 MHz) for its 4G services. This band operates in the frequency range of 2500 – 2570 MHz for the uplink and 2620 – 2690 MHz for the downlink. The band has a width of 70 MHz and uses Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) technology. This band is widely used across various countries, including Romania, for providing high-speed mobile internet services.

B8 (900 MHz) LTE

Digi.Mobil Romania uses LTE band B8, which operates at 900 MHz. This frequency band supports both uplink and downlink communications. The specific frequency ranges for the uplink and downlink are 880-915 MHz and 925-960 MHz, respectively. The band is used for LTE services, providing a range of mobile services including prepaid plans and internet rollover.

B20 (800 MHz DD) LTE

Digi.Mobil Romania uses LTE B20 (800 MHz DD) for its LTE network deployments. This frequency band is particularly known for its wide area coverage and deep penetration, making it suitable for regional and rural environments, as well as in-building coverage. It is also popular for IoT applications like eMTC (LTE Cat M1) and NB-IoT (LTE Cat NB1) due to its wide coverage characteristics. The 800 MHz band does not easily support Massive MIMO and beamforming technologies due to its large wavelength. It can be used as a single band or as part of a multi-band network, and it supports carrier aggregation with other bands to enhance bandwidth and performance.

5G NR

Name Interface Description
N7 (2600 MHz) 5G NR

Digi.Mobil Romania uses the 5G NR frequency band n7 (2600 MHz) for its 5G services. This band covers the frequency range from 2500 to 2690 MHz, with the uplink ranging from 2500 to 2570 MHz and the downlink ranging from 2620 to 2690 MHz. The band supports channel bandwidths of 5, 10, 15, and 20 MHz.

N78 (3500 MHz) 5G NR

Digi.Mobil Romania uses the 5G NR frequency band N78, which operates at 3500 MHz. This band covers the frequency range from 3300 to 3800 MHz. The band is commonly referred to as the 3.5 GHz 5G band or C-band 5G. It is one of the most commonly tested and deployed 5G frequency bands globally due to its relatively common availability and the potential for large contiguous spectrum blocks, which are essential for high-capacity throughput. The n78 band is naturally limited in range and building penetration by the propagation characteristics of the higher frequencies used, but advanced processing techniques such as massive MIMO, beam-forming, and beam-tracking help mitigate these limitations. The most popular channel width for fully deployed n78 5G networks is the maximum 100 MHz.
