Oman's mobile network is characterized by a competitive market with multiple operators. The country's mobile network development has been marked by significant milestones and changes over the years.

Historically, Oman Telecommunication Company (Omantel) has held a monopoly in the landline telephone and internet access markets. However, in 2005, Qatar Telecommunication Company (Qtel) and its partners were awarded the second license to offer mobile services under the brand Nawras, which was later rebranded as Ooredoo (Ooredoo Oman). This marked the beginning of competition in the mobile sector.

In 2019, Omantel introduced its first 5G coverage, further enhancing the country's mobile infrastructure. Today, Oman has five mobile networks offering internet services: Oman Mobile, Ooredoo, Renna, RedBull Mobile, and Friendi. These networks provide 4G coverage, with Omantel and Ooredoo offering their own 4G networks, while Renna and RedBull Mobile use Omantel's network, and Friendi uses Ooredoo's network.

The introduction of Vodafone Group in 2020 has added another player to the market, promising to increase competition and drive innovation in services such as internet of things (IoT), cybersecurity, and smart cities. The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has played a crucial role in promoting competition and liberalization in the telecom sector, encouraging the development of sustainable competition and investment within the industry.

Overall, Oman's mobile network has evolved from a single-player market to a multi-operator environment, offering a range of services and competitive pricing to consumers.
