Greenland's mobile network has a history marked by significant advancements and challenges. The first mobile network in Greenland was introduced in the 1980s, with the NMT (1G) network being the first to be established. This was followed by the shutdown of all NMT networks in 2007. The transition to 4G mobile networks began in 2014, with the launch of 4G services in Greenland. As of 2019, there were 66,009 active mobile telephony subscriptions in use, with mobile coverage extending to nearly all inhabited areas except some remote regions. The country code for mobile communications is +299, and there are 66,605 mobile phones, corresponding to an average of 1.2 mobile phones per person, which is slightly higher than the average in the United States.
