Historically, the sector has been driven by the presence of major mobile phone operators such as Orange, MTN, and MOOV. These operators have played a crucial role in expanding mobile coverage and services across the country.

Mobile money transfer services are also prevalent, with mobile money penetration at 86 percent. The number of mobile money subscribers increased by 13 percent from 2021 to 2022. Mobile internet services are primarily accessed via mobile devices, with over 98 percent of internet users relying on mobile devices. Mobile internet subscribers increased by 18 percent between 2021 and 2022, contributing to a 31 percent increase in revenue for the sector.
The market for fixed internet subscriptions is smaller but growing, with a 11.3 percent increase in subscriptions from 2021 to 2022. The leading service providers in this segment include Orange, MTN, MOOV, Konnect Africa, GVA, and VIPNET, offering a mix of fixed LTE, ADSL, and fiber-to-home services.
