LIME British Virgin Islands was a telecommunications company that operated in the British Virgin Islands. It was part of the LIME (Landline, Internet, Mobile, Entertainment) network, which was owned by Cable & Wireless Communications. LIME provided a range of services including international and domestic voice telephone services, data/IP services, and mobile/wireless services including 3G and 4G across various smartphone platforms.
In 2007, bmobile, a subsidiary of Cable & Wireless, won one of the three franchises to offer cellular telephone services in the British Virgin Islands. However, Digicel, a rival operator, challenged the decision and eventually received a license to operate in the territory in 2008. Despite this, bmobile maintained a significant presence in the cellular telecommunications market in the British Virgin Islands through aggressive marketing and infrastructure investment.
LIME's parent company, Cable & Wireless Communications, also owned shares in other telecommunications companies in the Caribbean, including TSTT in Trinidad & Tobago and BaTelCo in The Bahamas. In 2015, Cable & Wireless Communications acquired Columbus Communications and decided to adopt the brand name FLOW for its consumer-facing business, effectively discontinuing the LIME name by May 2016.
