The Solomon Islands have a mobile network that has evolved significantly over the years. The first 3G services were introduced in 2010, leading to an increase in mobile broadband uptake. Currently, the country hosts three ISPs: Solomon Telekom, Bmobile, and SATSOL. Fixed broadband services are largely limited to government, corporations, and educational institutions due to the geographical challenges and the need for significant investment in infrastructure.

The provision of broadband infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, has been hindered by land disputes. However, improvements have been made with the build-out of the Coral Sea Cable System and the launch of the Kacific-1 satellite in late 2019. These developments have enhanced broadband satellite capacity for the region, though satellite services are primarily used as a backup for international traffic.

In recent years, the country has stabilized politically and economically, leading to a rise in mobile penetration and the slow uptake of broadband services. The first LTE services were launched in late 2017 in the capital city, Honiara, but 3G remains the main platform for mobile voice and data services, with GSM still important in outlying areas.

Geopolitical concerns have also emerged, particularly with the signing of a security agreement with China in April 2022, which has created tension with Australia, the Solomon Islands' largest aid donor. Despite these challenges, the telecoms sector has benefited from a rebound in mobile device production during 2021, and the market is expected to continue a positive growth trajectory through 2022.
