New Caledonia's mobile network is dominated by OPT-NC, which holds a monopoly and provides fixed and mobile voice services, mobile internet, fixed broadband access, and wholesale services for other ISPs. The country is well-serviced by extensive 3G and LTE networks, and it is considered to have one of the highest smartphone adoption rates in the Pacific region. By 2025, smartphone penetration is expected to reach 71%.

Historically, New Caledonia's mobile network development has been marked by significant advancements. In 2005, there were 134,300 mobile cellular connections, and by 2023, this number had grown to 269.8 thousand, representing 92.5 percent of the total population. The deployment of a nationwide FttP network by OPT-NC has also improved connectivity, with 28,000 fibre customers connected to the network by April 2022.
