Check device compatibilityCape Verde's mobile network has undergone significant development since its inception. The first digital mobile Global System for Mobile (GSM) network was launched by CVT in late 1997. By the end of 2001, CVT had 31,507 subscribers, representing a density of 7% and a growth rate of 60% compared to 2000. The network is available on all islands, with an estimated population coverage of around 90%. Pre-paid services were introduced in 1998, and by 2001, almost all new subscribers were pre-paid. In 2001, mobile revenues were ECV 989 million (approximately US$ 8.2 million), accounting for 18.6% of total telecom revenues and a 70.3% increase over the previous year. CVT has roaming agreements with 33 foreign mobile operators, with tourism driving roaming revenues, which accounted for around 15% of total mobile revenues.
