Check device compatibilityBosnia and Herzegovina's mobile network sector has undergone significant development and liberalization over the years. Historically, the sector was divided along ethnic lines following the 1992-1995 war. In the Federation, BH Telecom and HT Mostar dominated the market, while in the Republika Srpska, M:Tel (Telekom Srpska) held a monopoly. These operators have nationwide licenses for domestic and international calls, despite their localized service areas.
In 2006, the sector was fully liberalized, allowing new competitors to enter the market. BH Telecom's subsidiary, BH Mobile, and HT Mostar’s Eronet maintained their dominant positions in their traditional market areas. M:Tel has been expanding steadily in both the Republika Srpska and the Federation.
In 2019, the Communications Regulatory Agency (CRA) awarded the three operators 4G licenses, further enhancing mobile connectivity. The mobile phone market has high penetration, with around 98 percent market coverage. As of 2022, there were six active mobile virtual network operators in the country. BH Telecom remains the sector leader, accounting for 42.3 percent of the nation’s mobile subscribers, followed by M:Tel and HT Eronet with 36.2 percent and 21.1 percent, respectively.
