Saint Helena's mobile network has a history dating back to 2015 when mobile phone service was introduced. Initially, the network was designed with a 2G GSM layer and a 4G LTE layer to support data services. The first call was made from Sure to the SAMS Radio 1 studio in September 2015. Mobile numbers use the ranges 5XXXX and 6XXXX. Roaming was introduced shortly after service launch, but users have reported issues with roaming, including high costs and limited functionality.

In 2021, 73.7% of St Helena households had access to a mobile phone. Local SMS service was available at launch, and international SMS became available in November 2015. However, there is an unresolved incompatibility that causes SMS messages sent to St Helena mobile devices from overseas to be rarely received.

The mobile network has evolved to include 2G and 4G services, with ADSL2 service available to most households, offering speeds ranging from 2 to 20 Mbit/s. Plans to install a fibre optic network to homes and businesses have stalled as of 2024.
