Norfolk Island's mobile network has evolved significantly over the years. As of 2004, the island had a small GSM (2G) mobile network operating across three towers, but it did not support data transmission. This limited service was available for voice calls only.

In November 2018, an eight-tower 4G/LTE 1800 MHz network was installed, significantly improving data services on the island. This upgrade allowed for faster and more reliable internet access, enhancing the overall connectivity for residents and visitors.

Global roaming is available for many Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone customers, but it is essential to check with your provider before traveling to ensure coverage. Additionally, local SIM cards can be purchased to use mobile phones on the island, as it is not part of the Australian mobile network.
