MTN Congo is a mobile network operator in the Republic of the Congo. It was formed in December 2005 when MTN International acquired LIBERTIS Telecom. MTN Congo provides mobile services to over 1 million subscribers across more than 476 localities and villages, covering over 80 percent of the Congolese population. The network offers a variety of services, including conference calls, credit transfer services, and both post- and pre-paid mobile packages.
In November 2022, MTN Congo launched a 5G pilot network, becoming the first operator in the country to do so. The 5G pilot scheme was launched on October 28, 2022, and has been reported to achieve data speeds exceeding 10Gbps. This pilot is expected to pave the way for the launch of commercial 5G services in the Republic of the Congo.
MTN Congo employs nearly 300 direct employees and is responsible for more than 10,000 indirect jobs. The company uses Oracle ERP systems to manage its financial and operational data, but previously faced challenges in extracting and analyzing this data due to manual processes. MTN Congo has since implemented insightsoftware’s Wands, which has automated these processes, significantly reducing the time required for reporting and improving data accuracy.
